SIMPLE(R) LIVING WITH MARIA ALDANA

I met Maria Aldana of Mind Blush Creative on Instagram when I first started Well Edited and instantly loved her calm and simple living vibe and her sweet, kind and honest personality. I also love seeing her travel adventures and ability to live in some pretty amazing places with her son. Maria is also the founder of Coral & Skye, an ethically made clothing + lifestyle goods company for families that love travel. As I think about how Well Edited started, it came from my personal journey of simplifying and discovering the freedom to pursue other passions in life and I want to highlight more stories like it. Here's my brief interview with Maria - enjoy!

Name: Maria Aldana

Location: Sevilla, Spain

How has simplifying your life and belongings shaped your life?

Simplifying my life started after I had my son. I went through a decluttering process and it started with my closet. I sold and donated a lot of my clothes, shoes, and accessories. I donated all my old fashion and decor magazines and then started going through all of my office supplies. I realized that I didn’t need to hoard so many pens and have multiple staplers, just because they looked cute. From there, I went through every room, such as the kitchen and bathroom. Over time, it became easier and it made moving to new places much easier. I’ve finally found a balance where I can still collect the things I love, such as plants and tea, without feeling like I’m hoarding.

How has it made daily life easier?

While my life became lighter physically, it also had a huge impact on my mental health. I didn’t feel the need to hoard or collect, and I appreciate living in a space that is more calm and light. Walking into a room that isn’t full of clutter allows me to live more presently and focus on my tasks. I’m able to enjoy a cup of tea and write in my journal without worrying about being surrounded by too many things. I can work and study from home with less anxiety.

What are some things you have more time for?

I feel like it’s easier to travel, as I also like to simplify and travel lightly. One thing I’m currently working on is a digital declutter; email, google drive, iPhone photos, files on my iPad/laptop.

Easiest space(s) to keep organized:

Living area, bathroom, and bedroom.

Hardest space(s) to keep organized:

Kitchen as it’s a small space and my son’s room, which I’m working on some storage solutions for his Legos.
