Have a small entryway but want a mudroom-like space to organize all of your outdoor items? As someone who's never had a mudroom or large entry, here are some of my product
recommendations and setup that have helped us make our current long and somewhat narrow hallway into and great entryway space.
Go vertical with hooks. Have some that are low if you have kids in your home and some higher ones for adults. We have 3 of these adorable animal hooks from West Elm (pictured below) for sweaters and jackets and this Umbra entryway key holder (also pictured below). The mirror was cracked when we received it but we decided make it work and it's great for our keys, masks and can store hand sanitizer and other small goods on top.
A small bench, ottoman, chair or set of stools that fit small spaces instead. We have this bench (picture left) from the Little Market and it fits perfectly! If there's storage under even better but if not there aren other ways to get creative.
A small table vs. a long console table. We are using this Ikea tray table (pictured above) and it works great with a small basket on top for mail, sunglasses, etc.
Baskets, baskets, baskets. We use ours for shoes outside of the front door since it's enclosed and inside for house slippers and store it under our table. These baskets (also pictured above) are always a hit and at a great cost.
As far as products in our entryway that's about it. We use a small hall closet for larger coats, jackets and bags and we put things in their place, sort the mail, etc. once we are settled in. With that, here are some additional tips and product ideas :
Get everyone on board. Plan out where everything should go at your entryway and elsewhere (i.e., hall closet, bedroom closet) if you can't fit it all there and set a time to put things back before the end of the evening.
Use labels if it makes it easier for everyone to put things back.
Look at what you already have. We used baskets, a table and bench that we already owned prior to moving into our new place.
As for other products, floating shelves are perfect for additional storage of hats, mail, a vase of flowers, artwork and more.
Another option I love is an all-in-one bench, with coat hooks and shoe storage like this Ikea Pinnig rack.
Here's to making small entryway spaces organized and looking good!
